Senior golf club finder
Enter your usual driver distance (or your swing speed, if you know it). You'll get a starting shaft flex, driver loft, shaft weight and bag set-up, plus models to compare.
How the finder works
It estimates driver speed from distance using about 2.3 yards of total distance per mph, the ratio in TrackMan's average-golfer numbers (93.4 mph and about 214 yards total, as reported by Golf Digest). Slower swingers usually get a little less distance per mph, so it may slightly underestimate a slow swing. Then it applies published rules of thumb:
| Driver speed | Flex (True Spec chart) | Driver loft | Shaft weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 72 mph | Ladies (L) | 12°–14° | 40–50 g |
| 72–83 mph | Senior (A) | 12°–14° | 40–50 g |
| 84–96 mph | Regular (R) | 10.5°–12° (12°–14° up to 85 mph) | 50–60 g |
| 97 mph+ | Stiff (S) | 9°–10.5° | 60 g+ |
Bag set-up follows fitter Tom Wishon's advice: replace the longest irons you can't hit consistently with hybrids or high-lofted woods, because at slower speeds the gaps between long irons shrink to just a few yards.
What it can't tell you
- Flex letters aren't standardized; one brand's Regular can play like another's Stiff.
- Distance depends on strike, course firmness and altitude, not just speed.
- Lighter isn't always longer: in Golf Digest's shaft test, only 12% of golfers swung fastest with the lightest shaft.
Use the result to narrow your shortlist, then confirm on a launch monitor if you're spending real money.
