Short answer
The Bag Boy Nitron Swivel is the best push cart for most golfers: it opens and folds in one motion, steers easily with a swivel front wheel, and co-won MyGolfSpy's 2026 test. If lifting it into the car is the hard part, the plain Bag Boy Nitron is the lightest here at 16.7 lb. For hilly courses, a four-wheel cart like the Sun Mountain Pathfinder PX4 is harder to tip over.
A push cart takes the weight of your bag off your shoulders and back, so you can keep walking the course. The differences between good carts are small on the fairway and large in the parking lot: how much it weighs, how many steps it takes to fold, and whether it fits your trunk. We compared maker specs and MyGolfSpy's 2026 push cart test, which scored maneuverability, features, durability, stability and folding. We haven't pushed these carts ourselves (how we pick).

- 18.5 lb; folds to 18.7 × 13 × 22 in
- Auto-open (gas piston); 3 wheels, front swivels or locks
- Dual rear-wheel brake
The catch: Costs $40 more and weighs almost 2 lb more than the plain Nitron.

Illustration Lightest, one-motion fold
Bag Boy Nitron Push Cart
The lightest cart in this guide, and it opens and folds in one motion with no latches. That matters when you lift it in and out of the trunk every time you play.
- 16.7 lb; folds to 19 × 13.5 × 22 in
- Auto-open (gas piston); 3 wheels
- Handle-mounted parking brake
The catch: Fixed front wheel, so tight turns take a little more effort than the Swivel.

Clicgear Model 4.5 Push Cart
Runner-up in MyGolfSpy's 2026 test. It folds into the smallest box here, handy for a small trunk, and the console has a phone holder and drink holder built in.

- 22 lb; folds to 27 × 15 × 17 in
- 4 wheels; dual front-wheel hand brake
- Slide-to-close fold
Skip it if: you carry a stand bag or have a small trunk; it's built for cart bags and folds long.

Illustration Best value; can be motorized later
Alphard Cybercart Push+ Push Cart
Co-winner of MyGolfSpy's 2026 test at the lowest price of the top carts. If walking gets harder later, Alphard sells a motor kit instead of a whole new cart.
- 23 lb; folds to 20 × 15.5 × 22 in
- 3 wheels, swivel front; dual rear brakes
- Optional motor kit turns it into a remote electric caddy
The catch: Heaviest cart here to lift into a car.

How to choose a push cart
1. Weight: what you'll actually lift
The carts here weigh 16.7 to 23 lb. You lift a cart at least twice every time you play, usually into a trunk at waist height while bending forward. If your back or shoulders complain, that 6 lb spread matters more than any feature on the console. The Nitron (16.7 lb) and Pathfinder PX4 (17.2 lb) are the lightest we found from major brands.
2. The fold: one motion vs two steps
Bag Boy's Nitron models use a gas piston: release the latch and the cart opens or folds in one motion with no knobs to twist. Sun Mountain's carts fold in two steps; Clicgear uses its own folding frame. If your hands are stiff or you have arthritis, try the fold in a store before you buy, or ask a store to show you.
3. Folded size vs your trunk
Measure your trunk opening and floor before you order. The Clicgear 4.5 folds into a short, tall box (13 × 15 × 23 in); the Clicgear 8.0+ folds long and flat (27 × 15 × 17 in). Sun Mountain doesn't publish folded sizes for the PX4 or Speed Cart X, so check one in person if space is tight.
4. Three wheels or four
Three-wheel carts are usually lighter, smaller when folded and easier to steer. Four-wheel carts sit flatter and are harder to tip on side slopes, and you can lean on one without it rolling. A swivel front wheel (Nitron Swivel, Cybercart) gives a three-wheeler tighter turns without tipping the cart back. On a flat course, three wheels are fine; on a hilly one, consider four.
5. A hand brake you can reach
Every pick here has a brake on or near the handle. Avoid carts with only a foot brake if your balance isn't what it was: you shouldn't have to stand on one leg on a slope to stop the cart from rolling. Dual brakes (Nitron Swivel, Cybercart, Clicgear 8.0+) hold better on steep hills.
6. Bag fit
Most carts take a cart bag or a stand bag, but not all: Clicgear says the 8.0+ is designed for cart bags. Bag Boy's Top-Lok system locks compatible bags in place so they don't twist. Many complete sets come with a cart bag; see our best golf club sets for seniors.
Electric caddies: when a push cart isn't enough
If hills wear you out, an electric caddy does the pushing. They cost far more and weigh more, so loading them is harder, not easier. Some examples:
- MGI Zip Navigator ($1,495, remote control, 28.6 lb without battery). The all-terrain Zip Navigator AT is $1,699.
- MGI Zip X1 ($799, controls on the handle, no remote, 22 lb without battery).
- MGI E-Boost ($599): a push cart first, with a button that adds power on hills. A middle ground for golfers who mostly want help going uphill.
- Bat-Caddy X4R: a remote-control caddy whose lithium battery weighs about 6 lb and is rated for 36+ holes per charge.
- Alphard Cybercart Push+ (above): a push cart that can take a motor kit later.
Check whether your course allows electric caddies and how far the parking lot is from the first tee; a 30-lb caddy plus battery is a lot to lift on your own.
Mistakes to avoid
- Buying on features, not weight. Phone holders and coolers are nice; a cart you dread lifting stays in the garage.
- Not measuring the trunk. Folded sizes vary by more than a foot in one direction. Check before you order, especially for small cars.
- Trusting a foot brake on hills. Choose a hand brake you can work without letting go of the handle.
- Ignoring the bag. A heavy cart bag on a light cart cancels out the weight savings. Light stand bags work on most of these carts.
- Buying the cheapest cart online. Few unbranded carts have independent reviews, so you're guessing about the frame and brake. The Cybercart Push+ shows a well-reviewed cart can still be under $300.

Common questions
What is the best golf push cart?
MyGolfSpy's 2026 test named the Bag Boy Nitron Swivel and Alphard Cybercart Push+ co-best overall, with the Clicgear Model 4.5 as runner-up. For golfers who lift the cart into a car, the lighter Bag Boy Nitron (16.7 lb) is worth a look.
What is the lightest golf push cart?
Among major-brand carts we compared, the Bag Boy Nitron at 16.7 lb, followed by the Sun Mountain Pathfinder PX4 at 17.2 lb.
Is a 3-wheel or 4-wheel push cart better?
Three-wheel carts are usually lighter and easier to steer and fold. Four-wheel carts are more stable on side slopes and won't roll when you lean on them. Hilly course: four wheels. Flat course: three is fine.
What is the easiest push cart to fold?
Bag Boy's Nitron and Nitron Swivel open and fold in one motion with a gas piston, with no knobs or latches to work. Try any cart's fold in a store if your hands are stiff.
Is an electric golf caddy worth it for seniors?
If hills are the problem, often yes. Remote models like the MGI Zip Navigator ($1,495) do all the pushing, but they're heavier to load. A power-assist cart like the MGI E-Boost ($599) is a cheaper middle ground.
Can you use a stand bag on a push cart?
On most carts, yes. Check the maker's notes: Clicgear says the Model 8.0+ is designed for cart bags, while the Model 4.5 fits most stand bags.
